This paper presents a new CFD tool for transient analysis of surface ablation of a Poly-Tetra-Fluro-Ethylene (PTFE) nozzle of a high voltage circuit breaker. The developed solver fully couples the arcing flow field inside a circuit breaker chamber including radiation, ablation and nozzle wall recession. The presented numerical simulation evaluates the changes in the nozzle mass flux due to the recession of the PTFE surface, in 10 consecutive applied current cycles. During the first current cycle, the results were compared with the experimental data.
